About BRB&B
In the heart of the Highlands—where old soul meets new energy—there’s a bar that feels like home. That’s Big Rock Bar & Brew—a neighborhood spot with deep roots and fresh pours.
The name? It’s a nod to Big Rock Park, just a few blocks away in Cherokee Park. It’s where generations of Louisvillians have climbed boulders, skipped stones, gotten lost (sometimes on purpose), and always found their way back—with a story. Ask around—everyone’s got a Big Rock memory, and some are best told off the record.
Big Rock is more than just beer (though we brew the hell out of it). It’s about bringing people together. Whether you're sipping something crisp at the bar, catching up with friends over wine, or making questionable cocktail decisions on a Tuesday—you’re part of something local. Something real. We’re not just here for the beer—we’re here for the stories you probably shouldn't repeat at work.
Founded by folks who love this city—its quirks, its people, its weird weather and beautiful parks—Big Rock is built on good drinks, good company, and the belief that the best bar is the one that feels like yours.
Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth—we’re glad you found us. Pull up a stool. You’re one drink away from being a regular.
The Team
Meet the Founder — Nik Heberlein
Nik came to Louisville to run track at Bellarmine and got to know Big Rock the usual way: sweating through long runs in Cherokee Park. Years later, when it came time to open a bar, the name was already in his head.
By day, he’s a high school counselor—used to listening, solving problems, and keeping people out of trouble (most of the time). That mindset carries into the bar: keep it real, keep it welcoming, and don’t overcomplicate things.
Beer? That’s the obsession. Nik’s done his own research and development all over—from local taprooms to far-flung bars that definitely didn’t have health codes. Every pour at Big Rock reflects the hours (and miles) he’s put in for the sake of a better pint.
Before this, he was a minority owner in another brewery—ask him about it after a few drinks. It taught him a lot, mostly what not to do. Big Rock is the reset: a neighborhood bar that doesn’t try too hard, serves beer that speaks for itself, and feels like the Highlands.
Meet Haley McGlynn — Co-Owner & Bar Manager
Haley McGlynn has worked in bars long enough to know exactly what makes one great—and exactly what makes one a nightmare. She’s been behind the stick, on the floor, in the weeds, and somehow still loves the chaos of it all.
She graduated from Bellarmine with a degree in Psychology, a minor in Communications, and—unofficially—a PhD in calling people out when they try to close out after one drink.
As Co-Owner and Bar Manager, Haley keeps Big Rock running like a real neighborhood bar should: strong drinks, zero pretense, and just enough structure to keep the wheels from flying off. She’s the one behind the service standards, the bar program, and the team that somehow makes it all look easy.
She’ll probably remember your drink. She’ll definitely clock your vibe. And if you’re lucky, she’ll let you stay past close—but only if you’re cool and tip like an adult.
Nick — Bartender & Sports Guy
Nick’s the kind of bartender who can talk to anyone—and usually does. He knows sports like it’s a second language, and if there’s a game on, he’s already got thoughts. Before Big Rock, he served as a tanker in the Army, and now he’s a proud dad of two boys and a go-to guy for good drinks and better conversation.
George — Bartender & Trivia Host
George is one of the steady hands behind the bar and the brain behind trivia night. He keeps drinks flowing, questions challenging, and the room lively without ever taking things too seriously. Sharp, quick-witted, and quietly observant, George has a way of keeping everyone engaged—and occasionally in check—while still making the bar feel welcoming and fun.
